What is RWS Treated Timber?
Every RWS post leaves our Tantanoola facility treated with Tanalith®-K – a modern creosote wood treatment built for agricultural, rural, and outdoor use.
Every post is treated using a full-cell process, meaning the treatment penetrates throughout the timber, not just the surface. It holds even where posts are cut, notched, or drilled on site. That matters in real farm conditions where a surface treatment won’t.
Built to last
RWS Treated Timber is built to last with an expected service life of 25+ years. That’s backed by field and laboratory testing showing the Tanalith®-K preservative system delivers strong performance against rot and insect attack – the protection is in the timber itself.
Inherently fire resistant
Fire resistance is inherent to the Tanalith®-K treatment – Copper-based treated timber cannot achieve this. When fire comes through, RWS Treated Timber holds up where other timber doesn’t.
For anyone farming in fire country, this isn’t a minor point. It’s a fence that keeps standing when other timber burns.
Creosote-treated and inherently fire resistant – no other treated timber can say that.
Safer to handle.
Old-style coal tar creosote had a reputation – heavy surface residue, strong odour, and bleed-out that made it unpleasant to work with. Within five weeks of treatment, Tanalith®-K posts carry just 10% of the surface creosote residue of traditional creosote. After three years of field exposure, that drops to 1%. No bleed-out or leaching – the treatment goes where it should and stays there – and minimal odour means handling on site is a different experience entirely.
